Chase Choir supports as many village events as it can. For the past almost 6 years, we have had a full programme. Regular slots include performances at Whaddon CE First School's school's yearly May Fayre, the blessing of Karen's wedding, World War One memorial services, where we led the congregation in singing many of the songs popular from that time, the Nine Lessons and Carols service in St Mary's Church; and our own Christmas and Summer concerts too. Each year, Chase Choir supports two different local charities who benefit from our collections from January to December.
In 2020, our chosen charities are Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Keech Hospice Care.
In 2019 we have performed in church for a benefice service, and have held our annual Summer Concert. This year, our Christmas Concert is on 16 December at 7pm in the Jubilee Hall. Tickets payable on the door (£6, including a mince pie). We will also be singing at Nine Lessons and Carols on 15 December, and if you're out and about Christmas shopping, look out for us at Marks and Spencer at Centre:MK on 7 December. This year, our two charities are Harry's Rainbow and MK Hospital Cancer Centre charity appeal.
In 2018 we again performed at MK Music Festival, Thornborough church, a wedding at our own St Mary's Church as well as our usual summer and Christmas concerts. We love to travel to other venues, and have sung at a Masonic dinner, a double wedding and a local residential home for elderly people.
In 2017, we once again flexed our choral muscles in the the MK Festival, alongside other choirs on 24 March. we will also be sang at the Northampton Music Festival on 21 May, and our year ended with a wonderful Summer Concert on 16 July, in our village hall. Our charities for this concert was Motor Neurone Disease and Medical Detection Dogs.
By Christmas 2017 we had seen our busiest ever year! We have sung at Woburn Abbey at a Christmas Fair, at Marks and Spencer in MK City Centre, held our own Christmas concert, participated in our village church, St Mary's at the 9 Lessons and Carols service, boosted the festive spirit at our local pub, The Lowndes Arms, and sung carols to revitalise weary commuters a MK Central Station. We've been raising money for Willen Hospice and Thames Valley Air Ambulance at these events.
In 2016 we were placed second in the MK Music Festival's choir section, performed again at the May Fayre, which is now a regular yearly feature of our fixtures diary, as is a summer service in Thornborough Church. We were also especially honoured to be asked to perform at a unique ceremony to commemorate the role played by Whaddon in the Second World War, when it was the hub for secret messages relayed to and from France. The Chase Choir performed a French Resistance song during a special presentation, which linked two former secret agents, one English and one French. You can see the whole story, as reported by the BBC World Service here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/video_and_audio/headlines/36245666 Our Summer Concert in July was a blast! Our audience agreed that the Rodgers and Hammerstein medleys and solos from Les Miserables were a triumph. There were some great solo performances from our home-grown talented group too. and we raised money for the charity Emily's Star. We also sang carols around Centre:MK during the Christmas period in John Lewis and Marks and Spencer. Our Christmas concert played to a packed village hall, and from this, and our carol singing, we raised over £1000 for two charities: Parkinson's UK and Supershoes. This has been our best fundraising effort so far: we're very happy about that!
